The Beach of Kitroplatia is located in the small village of Agios Nikolaos. It has umbrellas, showers and a lifeguard. Nearby there are cafes and tavernas. It's named "Citron Square" after the citron trade, which flourished in Agios Nikolaos during the 19th and 20th centuries.

National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta, Malta

The National Museum of Archaeology is housed in Auberge de Provence, a fine example of Baroque architecture, built in 1571 for the Knights of the Order of Saint John originating from Provence, in France. The museum was inaugurated in 1958, including the archaeological and the fine arts collections. In 1974 the fine arts collection was moved to other premises and the museum became known by the designation it has today. It exhibits an impressive set of artefacts, ranging from Malta's Neolithic Period (5000 BC) to the Phoenician Period (400 BC). One of the highlights of the museum is the small statuette "The Sleeping Lady", for its uncommon features. Opening hours: 9.00 to 18.00 (17.00 Jan. and Feb.) Ticket: €5 Back to Valletta

Lisbon's City Walls, Portugal

The hilltop where the castle stands probably had walls since Roman times. However, the remains that can be seen today date from two main periods. The old walls, or Moorish walls, were built on top of whatever walls existed at the time, between the 10th century and 1147, when Lisbon was reconquered by the first king of Portugal. In this period only the castle and Alfama neighbourhood existed and the walls were rebuilt as the Christian threat from the north intensified. Later, in the late 13th and 14th centuries, D. Dinis and D. Fernando ordered the walls to be repaired and enlarged, to address both the expansion of the city and the growing tension with Castille. Segments of the Moorish wall can be seen close to the castle and in Alfama neighbourhood; the remains of the wall from D.Dinis reign can be seen at the Money Museum while the remains from D. Fernando period can be seen in Espaço Chiado, a shopping centre, and in Largo Martim Moniz.  Back to Lisbon ...
