The Beach of Kitroplatia is located in the small village of Agios Nikolaos. It has umbrellas, showers and a lifeguard. Nearby there are cafes and tavernas. It's named "Citron Square" after the citron trade, which flourished in Agios Nikolaos during the 19th and 20th centuries.

The National Tile Museum is located in the Monastery of Madre Deus, founded in 1509 by Queen D. Leonor. The monastery was enlarged, by order of King John III, during the 16th century. In the 17th century it was renovated; the first tiles and gilded wood date from this period. It was further decorated during the reign of King John V, in the first half of the 17th century, when Portugal was prospering with the gold sent from Brazil. However, the great earthquake of 1755 caused some destruction and the monument had to be restored. In 1834 the religious orders were extinct in Portugal and later in the century, there were plans to convert the monastery into an asylum. Tiles started being brought in for the decoration but they ended up just being stored. At the beginning of the 20th century many monuments, including the Monastery of Madre Deus, were put under the tutelage of the National Museum of Ancient Art. Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our Lady of Piety), Loulé, Portugal

The old chapel of Our Lady of Piety dates back to the 18th century and was built to replace a previous chapel destroyed by the Great Earthquake of 1755. The statue of the patron saint is from the 17th century. The new chapel, standing right beside the old one, was inaugurated in 1995.  The centuries-old cult of the Sovereign Mother reaches its peak on the second Sunday after Easter, when a group of man carry the effigy back up the steep path to the chapel. Ancient Kition, Larnaca, Cyprus

Kition was a city-kingdom located in present-day Larnaca, established in the 13th century BC. The first inhabitants of Kition were the Achaeans, the first Greek colonists to go to Cyprus. They settled with the purpose of exploiting copper but the settlement eventually faded two centuries later. The town was later rebuilt on a larger scale and there is some evidence of Phoenician presence at the beginning of the 10th century BC. The kingdom was under Egyptian domination for a short period in the 6th century BC and Persia ruled Cyprus from 545 BC. In 499 BC Cypriot kingdoms joined Ionia's revolt against Persia, whose rule over Cyprus eventually ended in 332 BC. However, in 312 BC Ptolomy I from Egypt conquered Cyprus, which was later annexed by Rome in 58 BC. Strong earthquakes in the 4th century destroyed Kition making the population move closer to the sea. Rua Augusta Arch, Lisbon, Portugal

The Rua Augusta Arch offers visitors a unique panoramic view of the city. Inside the arch visitors can learn about its history. It was built between 1759 and 1873, to commemorate the city's reconstruction after the Great Earthquake of 1755. At the top of the arch, there's a statue of Glory crowning Valor and Genius. Right below, on top of the columns, are the statues of four Portuguese historical figures: Nuno Álvares Pereira, Constable of Portugal in the 14th century, Viriatus, chief of the Lusitanian people in the 2nd century BC, Vasco da Gama, navigator that discovered the sea route to India and the Marquis of Pombal, Prime Minister of Portugal at the time of the Great Earthquake.
