Leeds Castle, Kent, England

Image
Leeds Castle was built in the 12th century and was once the residence of Queen Catherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry the VIII. However, what we see today is mainly the result of reconstruction carried out in the 19th and 20th centuries. Lady Bailie was the last private owner, responsible for substantial redecoration of the Castle. Upon her death, the Castle was left for benefit of the Public. Don't miss the Culpeper Gardens, originally the kitchen's garden and named after the owners in the 17th century. Another point of interest is the maze which ends, once you reach the middle, with a return to civilization through a grotto decorated with beasts and mythical figures made out of shells, minerals and wood. Opening hours :10.30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (4.30 p.m. April to September) Closed: Christmas Day Tickets (standard) : £24.50
