La Madeleine, Paris

Plans for the church of La Madeleine started in 1764 but after the death of the architect in 1777, the project was abandoned. Under Napolean I, works were resumed with the destruction of previous structures and the construction of a Greek temple-like building to honour the French Army. After the fall and death of Napolean, in 1842 the building was converted into a church dedicated to Saint Madeleine.
Throughout the year the church programmes quality classical music concerts.
