Montjuïc Castle, Barcelona, Spain
Montjuic castle stands 173 m above the port but, despite this privileged position, it was only built in 1640 during the Reaper's War. It was also one of the key defense points during the Spanish War of Succession, between 1705 and 1714. After the war, military engineer Juan Martin Cermeño was commissioned to restore the castle, which had been badly damaged.
The castle was used as prison until 1960.
