The Casa del Mitreo is a house from the Roman period, built sometime in the late 1st century or early 2nd century. It had three peristyles (open patios surrounded by columns) and rooms decorated with magnificent frescoes and mosaics. Evidence was found of the Mythra cult, which explains the house's designation. The river beach of Mondim da Beira is located along the Varosa river, in Northern Portugal. It is dominated by a Romanesque bridge built in the 13th century and along the riverbank there are a few water mills.  The beach has a bar and a small strip of sand. There's also a baby pool. How to go: Public transport is scarce in this region so the best option is to go by car.

The cathedral of Saint Minas started being built in 1862. Built during difficult times- construction was even interrupted in 1866 due to the Cretan Revolution- it was greatly due to the enthusiastic support of the Heraklion people that the building was concluded in 1895. Despite Crete still being under Turkish rule, celebrations lasted for three days.  Saint Minas is the patron saint of Heraklion and the original church built in his honour still stands right beside the cathedral. The Lions Fountain, in Heraklion, was built in 1628 by order of Venetian superintendent Morosini. It is the final section of a more complex system conceived to bring water to Heraklion, which also includes a 15 km long acheduct. The fountain lobes are decorated with scenes from Greek mythology, namely tritons, nymphs and dolphins. The lions are a symbol of Venetian power. Heraklion

Malia Palace is located 3km east of Malia and, since the original name of the Palace is unknown (although thought to be Tarmaros or Milatos), it took the name of the nearby town. According to legend, the Palace was ruled by King Sarpedon, the third son of Zeus and Europa and brother of the legendary King Minos of Knossos. The palace is, in fact, the third largest of Minoan Palaces, occupying an area of 7,500 square metres. It is thought that the original palace was built around 1900 BC, on top of some previous settlement, at a time when the other palaces were also being built and a powerful elite was emerging in the island. This palace was first destroyed and a new one was built around 1650 BC. The palace was finally destroyed, along with the other Palaces on the island, around 1450 BC, most likely due to an earthquake that hit the island. The bridge of Saint Michael is a neogothic bridge dating from 1910 and offers excellent photo opportunities of the three towers of Ghent (Saint Bavo, Saint Nicholas and the Belfry), the Graslei and Korenlei and the Guild Houses of Ghent. Back to Ghent

The Medieval Market of Obidos is a historical reenactment of the Middle Ages, promoted by the municipality, which usually takes place between mid-July and the first week of August. Hundreds of actors and extras dressed up accordingly, with the medieval castle and walls in the background, allow the visitor to travel hundreds of years back in time through tournaments, singing troubadours and other medieval entertainments, as well as medieval (or local traditional) food.
