Bom Jesus do Monte Park, Braga, Portugal

The park of Bom Jesus stands on lands donated to the sanctuary in 1806. Although following the donation some trees were planted, the park and lake only started being planned in 1877 by a Commission specifically organised for that purpose. Some of the highlights of the park are:
Casa do Fresco
Also known as the Baroque Grotto, this structure was once in a Palace and was brought to the park in 1919. Within it is a statue of the mythological hero Hercules, representing the victory of the human soul over its weaknesses, and the hydra, representing all the sins.
Artificial Grotto
The artificial grotto close to the basilica was built in 1902 and designed by Ernest Korrodi.
The lake
The lake was planned along with the park in 1877 and was later enlarged in 1908. There are small boats to rent nearby.
The statue of Moses
This statue depicts Moses making water sprout from the desert, necessary for the lake in this case.

Take bus #2 from Avenida da Liberdade, in Braga, to reach the Bom Jesus.
