Shacolas Tower Museum & Observatory, Nicosia, Cyprus

The Shacolas Tower is a building completed in the 1990s and one of the tallest buildings in Cyprus.
The Museum and Observatory , on the 11th floor, allow for a 360º overview of the city of Nicosia.
There are maps of the city with short descriptions of what is being seen.

Opening hours: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (6 p.m. May. to Nov.)
Entrance fee: €2

Martim Moniz Square, Lisbon, Portugal

According to legend, Martim Moniz was a knight in D. Afonso Henrique's army during the city's reconquest in 1147 (D. Afonso Henriques was the first king of Portugal). Seeing one of the gates open he threw himself into the breach, allowing for the invading army to enter at the cost of his own life. Martim Moniz square results from the demolition of Lower Mouraria in the mid 20th century, including the street after which the square is named. Only the chapel of Our Lady of Good Health survived the demolition. In the 90s the city council decided to make the toponym official and maintain the homage to the hero of questionable existence. During many years the square looked very degraded, until 2012, when the city council decided to renovate, adding new kiosks and esplanades. Praça da República, Tomar, Portugal

Praça da República is the main square in Tomar and where the Town Hall and the Church of Saint John the Baptist are located. Both buildings were gifted to the city by D. Manuel I, King of Portugal and Grand Master of the Order of Christ (16th century). The statue in the centre belongs to D. Gualdim Pais, fourth Grand Master of the Knights Templar in Portugal and founder of the city, who ordered the construction of the castle , the Convent of the Christ and the church of Santa Maria do Olival, a burial ground for the knights templar. Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our Lady of Piety), Loulé, Portugal

The old chapel of Our Lady of Piety dates back to the 18th century and was built to replace a previous chapel destroyed by the Great Earthquake of 1755. The statue of the patron saint is from the 17th century. The new chapel, standing right beside the old one, was inaugurated in 1995.  The centuries-old cult of the Sovereign Mother reaches its peak on the second Sunday after Easter, when a group of man carry the effigy back up the steep path to the chapel.
