Bembo Fountain and Turkish Sebil, Heraklion, Greece

At the top of the market, in Kornarou square, stand the Bembo Fountain and the Turkish Sebil.
The Bembo Fountain is named after the Venetian Governor who had it built in 1552-54, Giamatteo Bembo. It was the first fountain in Heraklion and the first time there was running water in the city. It is decorated with coats of arms of Venetian families and in the middle, there's a big headless statue from the Roman period.
The Sebil was a public fountain built by an eminent citizen, in this case, Hatzi Ibrahim Agha, which provided cool water to the passersby. It was built in 1776 and today is used as a coffee house.
