Museé de Cluny, Paris, France
The Museé National du Moyen Age is located in Hotel Cluny, an outstanding example of civic architecture in medieval Paris. It started being built in 1334 and was later rebuilt between 1485-1510, combining gothic and renaissance elements.
In 1832 Alexandre du Sommerard bought the building and installed there his large collection of medieval and renaissance artefacts; upon his death, the collection was bought by the State and the building was opened as a museum in 1843.
The Hotel was built on the remnants of the 3rd century Roman Baths which can also be visited.
Opening hours: 9.45 to 17.45 (closed on Tuesdays)
