Mini Europe, Brussels, Belgium
Mini Europe is a theme park located at the foot of the Atomium, near Heysel stadium, in Brupark. It has 350 1:25 models of the main European monuments, made out of epoxy resin and polyester, recreated to the smallest details. Roughly 80 cities are represented.
The park was inaugurated in 1989 by prince Phillip of Belgium. Before that, in 1987, a few art historians selected over 100 buildings from countries of the European Union, basing their selection on the socio cultural and architectural value as well as its symbolism. Next, 55 professional workshops from 9 member states were contacted to make the models' design upon thousands of drawings and photos. The process was accurate but slow: for instance, it took about 24.000 hours to complete de Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.
Entrance fee: €15.30
Opening hours: 9.30 am to 6 pm (10 pm Oct. to early Jan.) (9 am July and August); The park is closed from early Jan. to early Mar.
