"Bicas Velhas" Fountain, Loulé, Portugal

Dating from 1887, the fountain replaced the mayorship well in supplying water for the population. The fountain has four spouts made from a smelting of a bell of the main church. On its facade is the coat-of-arms of Portugal.

The small church of Saint Paraskevi, located in Limenas Hersonissou, was built in 1870 when a small chapel was carved in the rock. It was later enlarged in the 1930s to address a growing congregation. The church was damaged by fire in 1994 but has since been restored. The church is located on a site continuously inhabited in ancient times as there have been found traces from the early Minoan period to the Roman period when Limenas Hersonissou was an important harbour. Remains of a Basilica from the early Christian period have also been found. Saint Paraskevi was born in Rome in 140 AD to Greek parents and educated according to Christian teachings. Martim Moniz Square, Lisbon, Portugal

According to legend, Martim Moniz was a knight in D. Afonso Henrique's army during the city's reconquest in 1147 (D. Afonso Henriques was the first king of Portugal). Seeing one of the gates open he threw himself into the breach, allowing for the invading army to enter at the cost of his own life. Martim Moniz square results from the demolition of Lower Mouraria in the mid 20th century, including the street after which the square is named. Only the chapel of Our Lady of Good Health survived the demolition. In the 90s the city council decided to make the toponym official and maintain the homage to the hero of questionable existence. During many years the square looked very degraded, until 2012, when the city council decided to renovate, adding new kiosks and esplanades. Agios Nikolaos, Greece

Agios Nikolaos dates back to the Bronze Age, when occupants of Dorian Lato, a settlement on the hills, decided for the strategic importance of having a harbour. The new settlement was known as Latos Pro Kamara, or simply Kamara, and outlasted the one on the hills well into the Roman period. In the 13th century, the Genoese pirate Enrico Pescatore built a fortress named Mirabello, for the wonderful views of the bay it offered. He didn't enjoy his new fortress much as it was soon conquered by the Venetians. It was twice destroyed, in 1303 by an earthquake and in 1537 by pirates but was always rebuilt. It was finally destroyed by the Ottomans when they conquered the island and during this period Agios Nikolaos was abandoned. It was only after the 1866 Rising that people started to come back to Agios Nikolaos and named it after a small church on the hills. The Gates of Mdina, Malta

Mdina walls have three gates: the Mdina Gate, the Greeks Gate and the Gharreqin Gate. The Main Gate, also known as Vilhena gate, was built in 1724, under Grandmaster Antonio Manoel de Vilhena, who in 1722 ordered the renovation and restoration of Mdina. The courtyard behind the main gate was demolished to make way for the Vilhena Palace and a new gate had to be built, a few meters to the left of the old one, which was walled up. The Gate has reliefs of Saint Agatha, Saint Paul and Saint Publius, the three patron saints of Malta. The Greeks Gate is the oldest of the three Gates, dating back to medieval times. It was also renovated in 1724 when an outer portal was built in the baroque style. It is known as the Greeks Gate because a small community of Greeks once lived by the gate.
