Eiffel Tower, Paris, France

The Eiffel tower was built for the 1889 Universal Exhibition, which was held to celebrate the centennial of the French Revolution. It was built in 2 years, 2 months and 5 days, a veritable technical and architectural achievement. The tower was intended to only last 20 years but was saved by scientific experiments, particularly the first radio transmissions, to become a symbol of Paris. 
The tower is 324m tall and is constituted by 18,000 parts held together by 2,500,000 rivets. It has a total weight of over 10 tonnes and receives about 7,000,000 visitors per year.

Opening hours: 9 a.m. to midnight from mid-June to early September; 9.30 a.m. to 11 p.m. the rest of the year.

Entrance fee: lift entrance ticket to the top €17; lift entrance ticket to the 2nd floor €11; stairs entrance ticket to the 2nd floor €7.
