Bom Jesus do Monte Funicular, Braga, Portugal

The Bom Jesus do Monte Funicular was designed by Swiss engineer Niklaus Riggenbach. Works started in 1880 supervised by the Portuguese engineer Raul Mesnier du Ponsard. The funicular was inaugurated on the 25th of March 1882. Its success was such that in the same year Mesnier was invited to design and install a series of funiculars and cable lifts in Lisbon, some of which still work today.

Opening hours: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Summer), to 7 p.m. (Winter).
Tickets: One way €1.20; round trip €2.00.

How to get there: Take bus #2 in Avenida da Liberdade, in Braga, to reach the Bom Jesus.
