Generalife, Granada, Spain
Generalife is a corruption of the Arabic words Yannat al Arif, which have several possible translations, one of which "The heavenly Gardens". This was the place where the kings of Granada came to rest from Court life. It dates back to the 13th century and originally included orchards and meadows. It has two main patios: the Patio de la Acequia (Water Garden Courtyard) and the Patio del Ciprés de la Sultana (Sultana´s Cypress Garden). You can buy your tickets in advance here, as they are usually sold out at the ticket office.
