Pont Alexandre III, Paris, France

Pont Alexandre III is the most beautiful and monumental bridge in Paris, connecting Les Invalides to Champs Elyseés. It is an open-air museum with an array of masterful sculptures provided by numerous sculptors- water nymphs, cherubs, winged horses, lions, maidens. Art nouveau lamps give the illumination. The four gilded statues that watch over the bridge represent the "Fames"- science, arts, commerce and industry.
It was built for the World's Fair of 1900. It is named after Tsar Alexandre III, commemorating the new diplomatic relationship between France and Russia. It is a deck arch bridge with a length of 160m. Alexandre's son, Nicholas II, laid the bridge's foundations in 1896.
