Saint Francis Church, Museum and Crypt, Oporto, Portugal

The church of Saint Francis is a Gothic Monument with inner Baroque decoration. The church started being built in 1383, on top of a previous monastery, by the Order of Saint Francis, under the patronage of King Ferdinand I. During the 15th century prominent Oporto families chose the Franciscan church for their pantheon, resulting in the eerie catacombs which can also be visited. In 1832, during the siege of Oporto, the cloisters were destroyed in a fire and the land was sold to Oporto Commercial Association to build the Oporto Stock Exchange.
